Starting in Portugal in August 2021, The Tall Ships Races 2020 (Rescheduled to 2021) will see events taking place across 3 countries in Europe including Spain, before coming to a close in France in September 2021.
It's believed that more than 10 tall ships will take part in The Tall Ships Races 2020 (Rescheduled to 2021).
The largest event organised by Sail Training International is The Tall Ships Races. It's an annual summer series held in European waters where ports along the route will host festivals that can be expected to bring between 200,000 and 1 million visitors over 3 to 4 days. Sports, social, and cultural activities will be planned for the thousands of crew members, whilst the highlight of any festival is the crew parade which sees participants from all over the world come together to take over the streets.
The Tall Ships Races 2020 takes place over 3 legs, will see the fleet travel 1900 nautical miles and is sure to have plenty to celebrate. The first port of call will be Lisbon, a city which welcomed the very first edition of the races in 1956. After Lisbon, The Tall Ships Races 2020 fleet will then race south to Cadiz in Spain before another short race and the cruise-in-company (which includes visits to various other ports in Spain and Portugal) takes them north to A Coruna, also Spain. From A Coruna they'll once again head out to race - this time sailing over 650 miles north, across the Bay of Biscay and up the English Channel to the finale event in Dunkirk, France, a city which will be welcoming The Tall Ships Races for the very first time.
