Challenge Wales - from round the world ocean racer to UK Sail Training Vessel of the Year

Challenge Wales originally raced around the world twice but now offers a wide range of adventurous opportunities for those aged 12 – 25 years as well as adult delivery voyages and mile-builders for those aged 18 – 75 and no sailing experience is necessary to take part. In 2012, Challenge Wales officially represented the Youth of Wales and the City of Cardiff at the Queen’s Jubilee Pageant on the Thames and in 2014 took part in the Commonwealth Games Flotilla, Glasgow.

The vessel sails with up to 18 people onboard, which includes up to 6 Challenge Wales crew, and is owned by the Welsh charity, Challenge Wales.

Challenge Wales offers voyages to suit your requirements and budget ranging from 1 day taster sessions to adventure residentials and Tall Ships racing. Challenge Wales is an Approved Activity Provider for the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) and offers a fantastic opportunity to gain your Gold residential to RYA qualifications. Join us for a Wildlife Watching Coastal Voyage, to a Celtic Adventure, to a skills development voyage. Challenge Wales has worked with schools, youth groups, unemployed young people, visually impaired groups, housing associations, uniformed groups as well as individuals looking to do something different and develop themselves while meeting new people….and of course having lots of fun along the way!

Those sailing on Challenge Wales get involved in all aspects of sailing and running the boat, and the experience provides an opportunity for people to learn and improve teamwork and communication skills, leadership abilities, decision making and planning as well as developing self-confidence in a positive, ‘can-do’, environment.

Challenge Wales is also available for corporate opportunities, fundraising events and maritime festivals as well as team-building days.

In 2017 Challenge Wales was awarded ‘UK Sail Training Vessel of the Year” and has worked with over 3,000 young people.
