Sail Across Lake Ontario and take on the Welland Canal to Buffalo in the Tall Ships Challenge® 2019

Join the tall ship Picton Castle in Toronto, Ontario on July 1st 2019, in the midst of Redpath Waterfront Festival 2019, for an unforgettable 6 day adventure that will see you travel from Canada to the United States. You'll be getting hands on with setting the sails, steering the ship, keeping watch and more throughout the voyage and the best part is that no experience is required in order to join - you'll be taught everything you need to know before you need to know it at every stage throughout the journey.

After onboard briefings and a little time to get to know your shipmates you'll be primed to take part in TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® Great Lakes 2019 as crew of Picton Castle. You'll be sailing with land in sight throughout most of the voyage.

You'll be crewing the largest tall ship of the 2019 challenge fleet, spending your summer celebrating the great age of sail through festivals, fireworks, music and more in addition to getting truly hands on with the traditional sailing experience.

While the Great Lakes may sound easy to tackle, quite often they're not. They are perhaps better described as inland seas. You'll be sailing Picton Castle across Lake Ontario before entering the Welland Canal, a short cut designed to bypass the immense Niagara Falls. Transiting these canals will call for plenty of interesting work with the rigging to get the yards cockbilled and boats swung in. You'll likely be getting to grips with small boat sailing during the voyage too, both under sail and by the power of the oar!

As a part of the Tall Ships Challenge® series you can expect a warm welcome at every port stop, with a chance to meet and possibly even compete with crews of all the other ships.

Whilst aboard Picton Castle you'll find yourself learning more with every day that goes by with a crew that's more than happy to answer any questions you have and skill-building workshops taking place throughout the journey.
