Join the tall ship ATYLA in Bergen on July 23rd 2019, in the midst of The Tall Ships Races Bergen 2019, for an unforgettable 11 day adventure that will see you travel from Norway to Denmark. We highly recommend you get hands on with setting the sails, steering the ship, keeping watch and more though it will be possible to join as a passenger for this voyage if you simply wish to relax onboard. No experience is required to be able to join either and the permanent crew will be on hand to make sure you know all the information you need to in good time.
After onboard briefings and a little time to get to know your shipmates you'll be primed to take part in The Tall Ships Races 2019 as crew of ATYLA.
Get ready for an impressive race starting in the fjords of Norway. This trip is perhaps the most complete of 2019 as it has a bit of everything.
It all starts with the impressive parade of sail departing Bergen, heading out through the Norwegian fjords.
Then (if they do as the last time we were in Bergen in 2014), we’ll have one night before the race start, that we’ll spend anchored in a nice bay inside the fjord, with time to go for a swim and go to a shore that is almost virgin.
Then comes the race, 7 days of sailing with no engine, along with the other participant ships. Coming down from the fjords and crossing the famous Skagerrak sea.
And finally the days in Aarhus, celebrating the end of The Tall Ships Races, with the crew parade, the prize giving ceremony, the crew party, and all the activities in the port.
This young city is the second biggest in Denmark, and is known as “the city of smiles”. The local community loves ships, and it’s the first time that Atyla comes to the city, so they’ll be excited about our visit. Even the mayor, whose nickname is "Captain Bundsgaard”, might come over for a visit.
We will, of course, welcome everyone on board to tell them about our project and to collect donations to our Scholarship Fund so, if you are embarking as a participant, you’ll be asked to help out with this activities. Don’t worry, you’ll also have some free time.
The voyage price includes: 3 meals a day and your own private bunk; certificated participation in Atyla’s Personal Development Programme; participation in the crew-only activities in Aarhus, including the crew parade and the crew party; insurance for your time on board (see terms and conditions); an official Atyla T-shirt; and an official Tall Ships Races 2019 T-shirt.
Your journey aboard this beautiful 2 Masted Staysail Schooner will end in Aarhus where you'll find yourself a part of The Tall Ships Races Aarhus 2019 and disembark on August 3rd. If you'd love to join this voyage but simply can't afford it, check to see if you qualify for funding via the Sultanate of Oman Bursary Fund 2019.
