The Excelsior Trust - Est 1983 - Restoring and Maintaining historic vessels such as Excelsior and providing Sail Training for over 30 years.
The Excelsior Trust was set up in 1983 to finish the restoration of EXCELSIOR LT472, huge efforts in fund raising, allowing work for up to 31 local unemployed laborers at the time, providing traditional grandfather skills that had long been forgotten. Once restoration was complete, the vessel was commissioned by HRH The Princess Royal on the 5th August 1988 and EXCELSIOR took part in her first Tall Ships Race in July 1989.
Providing Sail Training and unique sailing opportunities for all for 30 years, the Trust has honed what it takes to know only get from a to b on a traditional vessel, but to fully utilise that time on board, acting as the catalyst in improved social and communication skills, enhancing well being for thousands of young people in this time.
Today the Trustee continue to work to ensure that our crew are equipped with the skills and ability in both the historically accurate maintenance of this fine vessel, but also in the delivery of exceptional Sail Training, tailoring each weeks charter to the unique set of characters that may join us, ensuring that every experience is one that no one will forget.
