As a part of the Velas LatinoAmérica 2018 series it’s all about strengthening bonds between the many Navies and nations participating, an idea that extends beyond the 1500+ crew members to the many thousands of visitors expected to descend on the city for a celebration like no other.
It’s a quite unique opportunity for the general public to step aboard so many of the worlds most beautiful naval tall ships - so far at least 12 Class A vessels from 11 nations have registered their interest and our recommendation for Velas LatinoAmérica Punta Arenas 2018 is of course Esmeralda of the Chilean Navy, a ship guaranteed to be in full festival swing for her home event.
Velas LatinAmerica 2018 will see a fleet of at least 12 Class A naval tall ships come together to sail over 12,000 nautical miles across 157 days, visiting 18 festivals in 12 South America countries. The regatta - which includes a rounding of Cape Horn - aims primarily to strengthen bonds between the Navies and nations participating.
