Sunderland celebrates the start of The Tall Ships Races 2018!
An international fleet of tall ships takes over the city of Sunderland in England for Tall Ships Sunderland 2018, a part of The Tall Ships Races 2018. This event will offer a fantastic opportunity for visitors to step aboard many beautiful tall ships from across the world while thousands of crew members meet and compete with their counterparts, bringing international friendship and culture to the forefront of what is sure to be an event like no other.
The city of Sunderland has shown strong support for the sail training experience ahead of welcoming the races in 2018, launching an ambassador programme in May 2016 that aims to attract more youth from the region to get involved. You’ll be sure to step aboard many of the tall ships in attendance, but that's not all as some will even offer cruises during the event!
Did You Know? Many of these traditional vessels offer an experience known as ‘Sail Training’, a course in personal and professional development championed by youth development organisations, multi-national corporations and even navies from across the world.
After Sunderland, The Tall Ships Races 2018 heads east to Esbjerg in Denmark before cruising north to Stavanger in Norway. From there they’ll race south to the finale in Harlingen, Netherlands.
