Tall Ships Network has announced that Unión will be taking part in Velas LatinoAmérica Cozumel 2018.
BAP Union, a Sail Training tall ship operated by the Peruvian Navy Since 1985 it has been the intention of Peru to build a Sail Training tall ship for its navy, though due to many economic issues in the years since, it wasn't until 2010 that the project for BAP Unión was finally approved. An international fleet of tall ships takes over the city of Cozumel in Mexico for Velas LatinoAmérica Cozumel 2018. As a part of the Velas LatinoAmérica 2018 series it’s all about strengthening bonds between the many Navies and nations participating, an idea that extends beyond the 1500+ crew members to the many thousands of visitors expected to descend on the city for a celebration like no other. This event is a part of Velas LatinoAmérica 2018 which takes place between March 25, 2018 – September 2, 2018
Velas LatinAmerica 2018 will see a fleet of at least 12 Class A naval tall ships come together to sail over 12,000 nautical miles across 157 days, visiting 18 festivals in 12 South America countries. The regatta - which includes a rounding of Cape Horn - aims primarily to strengthen bonds between the Navies and nations participating.
